Directed by: Kevin Hooks
Laurence Fishburne and Stephen Baldwin are convicts on the run in Fled. Handcuffed together on work detail, prisoners Charles Piper and Mark Dodge flee the scene of a massacre by a fellow inmate who has single handedly eliminated half o the prison gaurds. In no tim ethe Attorney General’s office, with a keen interest in the escaped Dodge, assigns a U.S. Marshal to track down the prisoners. Dodge, as it turns out, holds a key piece of evidence on a disc, which if discovered, could bring down some very powerful people. All is not as it seems in the action-packed Fled, where double-crosses, dual identities, corrupt officials and a myriad of twists and turns abound.
Olive Films release of Kevin Hooks 1996 action comedy, Fled, hails from a 1080p AVC-encoded transfer. Although not the best of transfers, slight sight of grain throughout the films. Images don’t pop and the color hues are on point throughout the film, especially during brightly lit outdoor scenes when the characters are on the run. Overall a satisfactory transfer from Olive Films as their aren’t much intricate details to pick from. Stable contrast and tone throughout the film that serve a great attention to detail of the characters clothing. The only blu-ray release of this film is ultimately the best to compare to its original DVD predecessor. Olive Films does a satisfactory job restoring this print of the film and viewers will be pleased.
Audio 5.1 DTS mix transfer serves its purpose with this release. The score mixed in with the dialogue is clear and loud. I wasn’t expecting much of a theater experience with this catalog title from Olive Films, but I was thoroughly intrigued with my viewing experience. The overall experience of sound effects throughout the film was clear without any pops or interruptions, great stability throughout the film.
Unfortunately Olive Films never offers any special features with their title releases. Would have loved to hear commentary from directors/actors or would have loved to see at least the original trailer included.
Fled is one of my favorite action comedies to view at any time during the day. I grew up with this type of humor and I continue to do so with Olive Films upcoming releases. Overall viewing experience from Olive Films was on point and they never disappoint with their transfers. I would have loved to see added on features to this film as well as their other releases but beggars can’t be choosers. If you are up for some comedy fun, with a modern take on Poiter’s Defiant Ones, Fled is your type of film. Guaranteed laughs all around and a great popcorn flick. Pick this up for a reasonable price when Olive Films has their sales. Highly recommended.
