Starring: Natalie Portman, Ewan McGregor, Joel Edgerton & Noah Emmerich.
Directed by: Gavin O’Connor

Synopsis:
Jane Hammond has built a life on the rugged western plains with her husband Bill “Ham” Hammond and young daughter. When Ham stumbles home riddled with bullets after a run-in with the relentless John Bishop and his gang, she knows they will not stop until her family is dead. In desperation, Jane turns to Dan Frost, a man from her past, for help. Haunted by old memories, Jane’s past meets the present in a heart-stopping battle for survival.

Video:
The rich texturing of brown and tan grains pallets this film with a western experience from start to finish. Very settle grains can be seen throughout the length of the film, but compliments the style of the film very well. Close-up shots are rich in detail and is a pleasing experience in high definition. The black levels are balanced well with strong use of shadows as well as neutral color on skin tones. Colors are very consistent throughout the film and are very easy to the eye. This high definition, 1080p resolution is a very pleasing experience to any viewer, even when up-scaling on a 4k tv.

Jane Got a Gun (2)

Audio:
The film is brought to you on a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless soundtrack. Shootouts in this film are particularly loud and heavy and really brings out the audio experience of this film. Very settle sound throughout the film, outside of the gunfire which will really bring out the impact of any surround system set up. Outside of winds and insects, surrounding sound that encapsulate the on screen image of landscape, audio is mundane and quiet. Vocal audio is pristine, crisp and clear. A highly recommended film to experience on any surround sound system.

Closing thoughts:
Visually this was a beautiful film and overall, the story, acting, and style of the film was on point. I really enjoyed this film and it has to be one of the best modern western dramas out there. Even though the story is very basic and the film is very settle in length, the story gets right to the point and never leaves you hanging or having to get up and take a break. This film had me glued to the seat from start to finish and Natalie Portman does a wonderful job in the female lead role as well as supporting actor Joel Edgerton. This film will not disappoint to those western drama lovers.
